This page was created to support Mr. Lance's English III students in their Big College and Career Project. To find Riverside's excellent college and career print resources, search the Riverside Media Center catalog. This page lists online resources which might help you with your project.

Careers

The NC WISEOWL Career Library provides information about careers such as descriptions, salary information, and recommended high school and college courses for career preparation.

The Occupational Outlook Handbook provides similar information. We also have print copies available in the media center.

We do not recommend using Google or other search engines to find information about a career. You will find so much information that you might have trouble determining what is useful and reliable. Not only will you find descriptions of the career, but you might find things like advertisements from people pursuing the career. This kind of commercial information will not help with your research.

College

The NC WISEOWL Career Library also has information about colleges.

The College Board's website helps students match colleges to criteria such as cost, location, and anticipated major. Over 3800 colleges and universities are included in their searchable database. You can also sign up for a free account with the College Board to save profiles and other information you locate via this site.

The American Educational Guidance Center provides a list of the Top Ten Rules for Selecting a College or University as well as a list of colleges and universities sorted into categories such as Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Christian colleges, colleges for women, technical colleges, etc. They also include a section for online schools.

Sallie Mae has been assisting students in funding their college education for many years. They provide loans to students seeking undergraduate and graduate degrees. Their website helps students select the “right” college or university and plan for college. Their specialty, however, is in the area of helping students afford the college education.
